PaperArtsy Topic #13 – Time

I just love love love the sets of stamps just released. I bought the JOYF37 and wanted to use it for the challenge. Now how do I get a mushroom and caterpillar to correspond with time! Thinking cap on and the sun shining outside I thought of SUMMER TIME and a clock face could be the sun! So I set to work. My inspiration came from Keren Baker as she used pastels for her blog post. I haven't used my PanPastels for a long time so I dug them out to use for this challenge.
As I was designing this time piece I clicked on the PaperArtsy blog and low and behold Leandra had used clocks as flowers in her blog post!

Firstly I used a paper with clock faces printed on it but it was green and I wanted a summer feel to it so painted over it with a diluted yellow submarine.
Applied grunge paste through a stencil to give the effect of sun rays and whilst still wet sprinkled glitter over it.
On a piece of smooth card I stamped the images with Versamark and heat embossed. Embossing the images makes it easier to colour as it prevents colour bleeding over the lines but also if you happen to colour the emboss line it will wipe off as it acts as a resist.
Coloured with PanPastels. They are really easy to work with. So that I didn't smudge them as I was applying the colour I firstly applied Versamark all over to give it a key. When finished I sprayed a glitter varnish all over them so that the pastel wouldn't rub off.
Cut them out but before sticking them to the background I went around the edge of the background with a ruff it tool then applied distress ink.
Applied glaze medium to the sun.
Once dry stuck the mushroom, caterpillar and circles to the background and added some moss/ grass stuff for more texture.

I will be using these stamps a lot. I've already stamped and coloured a few already!

Paperarsty Challenge 2015 - Stencils

I couldn’t wait to get stuck into this challenge. I have bought 2 canvases {not proper canvas but more of a nylon texture!} from a car boot a few weeks ago and itching to decorate them. The inspiration that got my creative cogs turning  for my design  was the 1st post of the challenge and the 2nd video by Leandra Grunge Paste 106 Stencil Stamping  link.
Firstly, Because the canvas was a nylon texture I applied Mod Podge matt so that the paint had a key.
Applied Next paint for the base colour.
Applied Fresco paints with a brayer. This is the 1st time I have ever used the brayer and I absolutely love the effect it gives with the paints.

Applied grunge paste through stencils. The paint and pastes dried really quickly because of the very hot weather!

Stamped on the canvas using paint.
Used a stencil with paint in various areas and layering over the grunge paste.

Cut flowers and butterflies, applied rusting powder (I’m so loving this technique, it really does look like rust!), you have to spray white vinegar over the powder so my house smelt like a chippy!! I left it over night to take effect. The next morning I scrunched then and only a tiny bit of rust fell off! I wasn’t sure if it would adhere to the wax paper. The leaves I left plain. Stuck them on the canvas with Pinflare gel.
Coloured twine with paint. Stuck to the canvas with Mod Podge.
Filled in areas with stamp and ink.
Finished.

I love all the layers and textures, it’s a touchy feely design!
